The vacuum seals of stainless steel flanges are mainly rubber seals, metal seals and magnetic seals. Among them, metal seals can meet the requirements of ultra-high vacuum, but they have the following shortcomings: poor elasticity, high sealing pressure; poor reusability; high requirements for flange sealing surface and edge roughness and matching accuracy; great differences in thermal expansion coefficient between sealing rings and flange materials, which easily lead to leakage or local deformation.

The corrosion resistance of stainless steel flange depends on the content of alloy elements in steel. Chromium is the basic element to make stainless steel flange corrosion resistant. When the content of chromium in steel reaches about 1.2%, a very thin oxide film will be formed on the surface of steel to prevent further corrosion of steel. In addition to chromium, the common alloying elements are copper, molybdenum, nitrogen and titanium, which meet the different requirements for the structure and properties of stainless steel flange.
